Walsall Junior Youth Football League -- U7 & U8 Presentation Day

Mini Soccer teams round off the season with medals

There was a real festival atmosphere at Willenhall Sports College on Sunday May 10th as forty mini soccer teams from the Walsall Junior Youth Football League rounded off their season in style as they played their final matches of the 2008/09 season. There were almost 400 players taking part in the finale to the season, they all played their games and were then presented with medals in recognition of their efforts throughout the season.

This was the first Mini Soccer presentation day held by the Walsall Junior Youth Football League for the Under 7’s and Under 8’s age groups. As part of the Football Association’s “Respect” initiative, football matches in these age categories are deemed as friendly games, and results and league tables cannot be published and the teams cannot take part in knock-out cup competitions. The focus is about encouraging the youngsters to enjoy the game.  The format for the day consisted of each team playing a 30 minute game of three 10 minute sections, and then every player was presented with a medal in recognition of their achievements throughout the season.

The medals were presented by WJYFL Chairman, Howard Fullelove, and the teams then had the opportunity for team and individual photos to go with their medals.

The Under 8’s section will move to under 9’s for the 2009/10 season, where they will play in competitive leagues and knock-out cup competitions. The 2009/10 season marks the tenth year of mini soccer in the WJYFL, and any teams interested in entering the league can get more details from the league website, or by contacting Paul Chamberlain on 01922 685742.
